You can see by the above image, by removing some of top and side of the original image, the focus is very
much on the tree which now sits nicely on a “Rule of Thirds” intersection making the scene much more pleas-
ing and interesting.
Cropping is always a matter of conjecture, If, you think it makes for a better picture then go with your instinct.
Another common error in taking pictures, especially of the sea is a sloping horizon. We’ve all done it and it is
quite easy to correct.
Using the rotate option in the transform tool, you can easily square up the image and then go to the crop tool
and trim the results.
To bring out the colour and balance of the picture, tools such as Auto Colour and Levels come to the fore.
Auto Color in Photoshop splits up the colours and sets the darkest pixel to black and the lightest pixel to white,
but rather than redistributing that remainder, it makes an attempt at getting the colours right rather than just
spreading it all out.
Levels is a tool in Photoshop and other image editing programs which can move and stretch the brightness lev-
els of an image histogram. It has the power to adjust brightness, contrast, and tonal range by specifying the
location of complete black, complete white, and midtones in a histogram.
