P. 11
For a detailed explanation see - https://www.axis.com/blog/secure-insights/motion-detection/
1. PIR – Passive infrared (detects changes of levels of energy)
Active IR usually has emitter and detector – something breaks a beam.
2. Thermal – not visible light
3. Radar – as it states (I have a couple of lights that are switched on/off by radar)
4. VMD – unit is filming all the time and compares frames to see ‘motion’
– this is how PI and MotionEyeOS works
These off the shelf systems should be pretty easy to setup and they are convenient as they come (hopefully) with eve-
rything you need.
1. You may be able to add extra cameras.
2. Should be able to see live feed
3. You will probably need to have a login/pw.
4. They can be expensive, they can/may hold information about you, they get to decide what control you have over
the software/storage, upgrades may be required (forced upon you) and support can be ‘variable’.
