                                              What is the Difference?

                                  Archive Compression
⚫ Collects together many Takes a single file and makes it
related files and file types smaller
                                   and moves them to storage

                                                                                2

                                               What is Archive?

Packs things out of the way
e.g. Last years accounts, put in a box and store in the loft to
                                   clear space on your desk.
                                 Consolidates multiple files into one
                                 e.g. documents, pdf’s scanned docs => Accounts2023.arch

                                                                                 3

                                              What is Compression?

⚫ Makes a file smaller without changing the data contained
                                   (maybe!)
                                 ⚫ Lossy vs Non-Lossy
⚫ Reduced file size is easier to store, stream, email, etc.
                                 ⚫ Text doc compression ~ 90%
                                 ⚫ GIF image compression ~ 0%
⚫ Often need to reverse the process to recover the file (e.g. ZIP)

                                                                                 4
