Video Files

 Two things to consider
 Codecs, e.g. H264, H265, MPEG-4
 Container, e.g. WMV, MOV, MP4

 Codec handles the way that the data is encoded and
compressed
 Containers put it into a format the device can
understand

Codecs

 Most common ones these days
 H264 – most universally supported
 H265 – used for 4K/HDR video
 MPEG-4 – supports streaming

 Codecs also do compression
 Any idea how big 1 minute of raw HD video is?

Containers

 Some are device specific, others are widely used
 .mov – format used by Apple devices
 .wmv – Windows Media Format
 .avi – was fairly universal, but now replaced by .mp4
