come some problems you may encounter. Resident technical guru, Alan Danbury shed some light on the vari-
ous privacy issues you may encounter.
Perhaps a little naively, in the early days of the internet all traffic was transmitted in clear text – oh, how trust-
ing we were! Then along came the hackers and nothing was safe. This led to the introduction of security as the
slides show below.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a
server and a client - typically a web server (website) and a browser, or a mail server and a mail client (e.g.,
Outlook).
