Make sure the machines boot sequence caters for one of these to boot first in the BIOS settings. Once you have boot-
ed from the chosen media, you are able to test the package before commit to the final install.
It is possible to install a dual boot arrangement if you want to keep your original operating system. I had nothing on
the laptop that needed saving, so we went for broke. A complete install will overwrite anything left on the computer.
So, if you have specific files you wish to keep, save them elsewhere first.
There are some options available during the installation as mentioned in the above slide but we went for a single
boot, whole disk installation and an unencrypted disk. We then sat back while the laptop was doing the business in
the background.
Mick explained to us the many Windows equivalent packages that either come installed or can be readily download-
ed. Packages such as Libra Office, Thunderbird and Firefox along with many others come pre-installed. Others, you
can download from the friendly Software Manager.
All went well and the laptop booted up, not like a Ferrari but much quicker than under Windows 7. A bit more life in
the old machine yet.
One of the many safety features is that every time you wish to install, modify or remove software, your password
authentication is required. This goes a long way to remove virus threats.

When I tried it out the next day, all appeared to be well but the laptop would not recognise a WIFI connection, only
offering a wired connection which operated okay.
