Free video editing packages fall into two categories – either too basic or too complex. OpenShot man-
ages to strike a happy balance between ease of use and advanced features. Being open- source soft-
ware, there is a myriad of programmers out there making advances with lots of useful new tools while
maintaining a user-friendly interface.
New features include the introduction of “computer vision” AI effects such as Stabiliser to eliminate
camera shake. “Tracker” allows the user to draw a box around any element in a video to track its
motion through a series of frames. There are also 9 new audio effects added to improve sound quality.

The “Timeline” now offers a zoom feature to better enable navigation of multiple clips, tracks and
transitions. There are also improvements to give smoother snapping for aligning tracks as they are
trimmed.
If that was not all, there are improvements to “Transform”, speeding up resizing, rotation and cropping
the video.
