                                           Best Free Software 3

So, what is new in the world of free software. As you know, there are some wonderful gems out there that
rival many of the expensive commercial packages. Here is another batch of free software packages that
may tempt you to check out. As wit hall free software, please be careful how you download it as many of
these packages get bundled with commercial programs that you definitely do not want.
If by chance, you do load something you do not want, go into the Windows settings – Apps and delete the
unwanted package. Also, you can find (on Windows 10) under Windows System – Control panel –
Programs, you can do the same thing. Either way, get rid of them.

Paragon Backup & Recovery Community Edition
Available for Windows 7,8.1 or 10

You really do need the ability to back up and recover the software on your computer. With the threats of
ransomware and other rather nasty viruses about, the last thing you want is a lockout on your computer.
Also, your hard drive failure would also be pretty catastrophic. In the past we have shown you Acronis
which is an extremely powerful (and none too expensive package) that will back up your whole computer
         and much more.
Paragon has a commercial version with more advanced tools available, but we will consider the free com-
         munity version here.

When you run the program, it will ask you what type of backup you wish to perform. Here you can set up a
scheduled backup such as daily, weekly or monthly, depending on your needs. The type of backup must
also be chosen from full, incremental (backs up only the files that have changed since the last backup) or
differential (backs up those files that have changed since the last full backup). The backup screen also al-
lows you to set the target path for your backup. My advice is to use a free-standing external drive that can
be disconnected from the computer until you wish to carry out a future backup.
Restoring is simple and straight forward Restore – Restore Volume – Next and choose the backup you
wish to restore. You can also create Recovery Media to access a corrupt Windows system. You can create a
bootable environment such as a USB stick or an ISO file.
