DigiKam 7
You may remember a while ago, that Mick Sulley introduced us to the open source DigiKam im-
age manager package. If not, it is a powerful photo organiser and editor consisting of two pro-
grams.
Digikam is used to manage your photo collections, sort images into albums, filter content by cate-
gory, share items across numerous services and add effects. Showfoto is a standalone photo editor.
Theis updated release now has a much more powerful facial-recognition feature. It offers RAW
file support and improved handling of HEIF images. For the uninitiated - HEIF is the new photo format
that Apple is using to replace JPEG. And it probably will replace JPEGs, because the iPhone is the most popular, most
-used camera in the world, and as of iOS 11, most iPhones will be switching from JPEG to HEIF.
There is also updates to the slideshow creator and a new theme. Location data can now be added to your photo. Final-
ly, there is the new Image Mosaic Wall tool to play with. This new tool allows you to create a base image from tiny
thumbnails of other photos.
