Libra Office 7
Microsoft Office may be the de-facto suite for many businesses and private users, but it does come
with a large price tag and Microsoft, in line with other major software companies are keen for you
to take out a subscription service with them. This is where the fantastic open-source software
comes into its own. The suite offers 6 comparable applications – Writer (word processor), Calc
(spreadsheet), Impress (presentation & slideshow creator), Draw (vector-drawing for diagrams and
flowcharts), Base (database) and Math (equations editor).
The latest version is 7.0.2.2 and has been updated with some fairly big improvements including
better performance and improved Microsoft Office compatibility including saving files in the latest
Office document format .docx.
All the suite applications have been updated – Write now supports semi-transparent text and dis-
plays bookmarks inline in the text. It is now also easier to navigate large documents. Calc has been
updated and now offers new functions for non-volatile random number generation. There is now a
keyboard shortcut for auto-sum calculations. Impress and draw have fewer changes but also offer
semi-transparent text support and can produce much larger PDF files.
