Windows 10 gets another preview update
ahead of the end of support next month
Windows 10 has only one month of active support left, but Microsoft is not done with preview updates for
the outgoing operating system. Today, alongside a new Canary build for Windows 11 (there is one in the
Release Preview Channel as well), Microsoft issued build 19045.6388 (KB5066198) for Windows 10 In-
siders who still refuse to upgrade.
Unlike Windows 11 updates, though, do not expect much from today's update. There are no new features,
and there are no particular fixes. All Microsoft quotes are "small set of general improvements":
Windows 10 will receive its final update on October 14, 2025. After that, the operating system will only
get security updates via the Extended Security Updates program. Unlike before, when those updates were
only available to commercial customers, Microsoft is letting regular customers sign up as well. However,
the company is doing that not out of goodwill. Windows 10 still has a massive market share, with hundreds
of millions of PCs still running the outgoing operating system. One extra year of security updates, which
can be obtained for free, by the way, will give those users some extra time to plan an upgrade to Windows
11 or whatever comes after it.
Don't buy a new PC for Windows 11 just yet
— this lightweight version can save your old
Windows 10 PC
Tiny11 Builder can breathe new life into your old PC.
With Microsoft officially ending support for Windows 10 on October 14, older PCs that don't meet Win-
dows 11 requirements will be left to dust. But a custom Tiny11 Builder is giving unsupported computers
another chance.
An updated version of Tiny11 Builder has been released, a lightweight, custom Windows 11 build that re-
moves many of Microsoft's features and applications to allow older systems that don't meet Windows 11's
strict requirements to run the latest operating system.
Developed by NTDEV and available for use via GitHub, the Tiny11 Builder is a PowerShell script de-
signed to strip Windows 11 of bloat while keeping the OS serviceable on systems. As noted, it can be used
on "any Windows 11 release," and that includes the latest Windows 11 version 25H2 set to arrive for all
users soon (even though this update doesn't come with any new features).
