With the demise of Windows 10 support on October 14 , Alan Danbury showed us what to consider if you
plan to upgrade your old (but probably very serviceable computer) to a machine that will handle Windows
11 and beyond?
14 October 2025
The end of the world as we know it? – maybe, according to Microsoft. But all is not lost as Alan will show
us why.
After a massive show of discontent across the world, not least, the threat of millions of perfectly serviceable
machines being consigned to landfill – an environment disaster in the making, Microsoft have had to row
back on its draconian attitude to the computer community. So, what are the options?
So along came Extended Support Updates or ESU’s
What is ESU?
• Security updates for Windows 10
• Originally only available for Business users
• Cost USD30 per PC for year one
• Cost USD60 per PC for year two
This was originally only offered to corporations and businesses. Nothing for the home user.
Changes to ESU
• Few months ago – extended to Home Users
• UK cost £30 for one year
• Or FREE – if you met certain criteria
Not good enough said the community – have another think.
• For Home users in EAA (includes UK)
• Free
• Will only last one year
